Recently bought a new keyboard. V4 from Keychron, this is a customized keyboard with 61 keys. In terms of configuration, you can choose Kpro red switch, brown switch and green switch, and there are two versions of matte black version (semi-transparent) and carbon black version (opaque). I chose the combination of translucent black and tea shaft.

One reason to choose this keyboard is that the V4 is arguably a fully customizable keyboard. Because every part can be easily assembled. This can bring the fun of DIY.

As far as the packaging is concerned, it can be said to be relatively low-key. The front is the pattern of the keyboard, and the back is the description of the main information of the product.

The keyboard is stored in the foam sponge, and the position on the right is the storage position for accessories and tools. Coupled with the outermost plastic film, it can be said that the protection of the packaging is very good.

Accessories are mainly disassembly tools: shaft puller, key puller, screwdriver, inner hexagon, etc. Of course, most wired keyboards also have a C to C cable with an adapter.

The 60% layout and 61-key setting bring a compact volume. The size is about 303*117*25mm. The function keys, numeric keypad and direction keys that have been removed during use can be operated through the Fn key combination content on the manual.

The translucent shell can vaguely see the structure inside. The most intuitive is the horizontal and vertical cross ribs, with golden screws. Therefore, the keyboard will not be heavy, but it brings reliable and durable features to the structure.

The double-position design of the foot support can be adjusted according to our needs during use.

Silicone bottom pads are set at the end of the feet and the bottom edge of the keyboard. It is also a stable experience when placed on a smooth desktop.

Viewed from the side, it can be seen that it adopts an ergonomic OSA that fits the curvature of human fingers.

On one side of the interface, you can see the Win and Mac switching keys, and the switching between the dual systems has a free and convenient experience.

The V4 uses PBT keycaps. Compared with the common ABS material keycaps in the market, the PBT material keycaps are more durable and the characters are less likely to wear off. Another advantage is that it is not easy to be greasy, which brings durable and dry and comfortable use. feel.

The K-pro tea switch belongs to the micro-step switch, and the experience can be said to be stable and fast, and the bottom is firm and "stable". The K-pro is Keychron's own developed shaft, and because it is factory lubricated, these shafts can experience an accurate and smooth feel with every press.

The key puller brings great convenience when DIYing. The keycaps can be removed quickly.

In the design of the satellite shaft, a new PCB satellite shaft is adopted, which can be installed with screws to increase the stability of the satellite shaft. And it can be adjusted and upgraded more easily. The silver-plated satellite axis also brings a more accurate, stable, and non-shaking effect. This makes the big keys (space bar, shift key, enter key, delete key) feel stable and smooth.

The disassembled button can be seen to have a rib design inside, and the edge is thick. This also results in a heavy, durable experience.

If you want to completely DIY, you can refer to this structure diagram, and the hot-swap option function also makes it extremely easy to customize the shaft body. Pull out the shaft body during use, and press in to complete the shaft replacement without welding. In terms of shaft body, both 3-pin and 5-pin can be supported.

Also in this structural diagram, you can see the setting of the interlayer of noise-reducing cotton. This also results in a more appropriate listening effect.

In order to fit perfectly, V4 also specially configures two systems as system keycaps.

In terms of lighting effect mode, V4 has 13 lighting effect modes, press fn+A to switch forward, and fn+Z to switch backward. The gradually changing light effect flows between the red, black and gray keycaps, which can be said to be very beautiful. So V4 can always embellish the desktop with our favorite lighting effects.
