Logitech MX Mechanical Keyboard: A Low-Profile Option for Those Accustomed to Scissor Keyboards

Renowned for its unconventional strategies in the computer peripheral industry, Logitech continues to surprise with its latest releases. Not content with merely offering the popular Pop Keys, Logitech has also ventured into the realm of low-profile keyboards with the MX Mechanical series. Let us delve into the world of Logitech keyboards today.

The MX Mechanical series consists of two variants: the standard MX Mechanical keyboard and the MX Mechanical mini. The former closely resembles a regular 110-key keyboard, albeit with slight variations in the upper right corner, while the latter distinguishes itself with the inclusion of an editing control key on the right side, while retaining the arrow keys and F1-12 keys.

In terms of appearance, the MX Mechanical exudes a professional demeanor with a harmonious blend of gray and metallic hues. Its square keycaps with a suspension design lend it a robust aesthetic appeal. Positioned on the upper right side of the keyboard, users can find the power switch and a USB-C port, solely meant for charging. Unfortunately, this design choice renders the MX Mechanical unable to function as a wired keyboard. Additionally, a power indicator light adorns the upper right corner, ensuring easy visibility.

The keyboard boasts two raised brackets at the bottom, allowing users to adjust its inclination angle by approximately 8 degrees. However, one drawback lies in the absence of storage space for the Bolt receiver.

Owing to its thin keycaps and low-profile design, the MX Mechanical offers a shorter key travel distance, akin to that of a scissor keyboard. The keyboard's brown switches add to its appeal in office settings, providing a relatively quiet typing experience.

Illumination features on the MX Mechanical include a white backlight with seven levels of brightness adjustment. Additionally, an ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the backlight's brightness, while a proximity sensor ensures its activation when in use and deactivation when idle. Five lighting effects can be effortlessly toggled using the Fn + light bulb key combination on the keyboard.

As an avid mechanical keyboard user, I find the MX Mechanical less enticing due to the different tactile experience offered by its short key switches. However, for individuals accustomed to scissor keyboards, the MX Mechanical presents an opportunity to explore the realm of mechanical keyboards.

With Logitech's characteristic innovation, the MX Mechanical series offers a refreshing perspective on keyboards, catering to various user preferences. Whether you seek a lively aesthetic or a sleek professional look, Logitech has something to offer. Embrace the MX Mechanical series and redefine your typing experience.
