Pluggable, short shaft, light shaft? Keychron K3E Dual Mode Mechanical Keyboard

Recently, the frequency of creation with mobile devices is a bit high, and then a 12700K machine is equipped for work, so I want to use a portable and lighter keyboard for both ends. After shopping around, I found that many big guys are using Keychron, so I picked a K3 to share with you.

Keychron K3 also has two versions of white light and RGB, of course choose RGB.

The keyboard body is still quite thin, using the new hot-swappable short switch from Jiadalong. There are simple instructions for the dust cover and the paper that acts as a cushion.

In terms of accessories, in addition to the charging/data cable, a key puller and shaft puller are also provided. The force required to pull out the shaft body is a bit greater, and the proportion of metal in the shaft puller is getting higher and higher.

The keyboard itself supports WIndows/Android/Mac/iOS, and it also provides 3 Mac keycap replacements. Of course, the keycaps are also ultra-thin.

A brief look at the manual shows that the operations under different systems are slightly different, but the commonly used logic is basically the same. Fn+1, 2, 3 can quickly switch between 3 Bluetooth devices, long press to pair.

The upper left corner of the keyboard is a mode switch, which can be switched between wired/Bluetooth, Windows/Android and Mac/iOS.

In the middle is the USB port of Type-C, which is used for wired use or charging, and there is an indicator light next to it.

The four corners and the middle of the bottom are given non-slip rubber, which is very stable when placed on the desktop, and the keyboard itself is also thin.

There are actually two sections of foot support, which is relatively rare on thin and light keyboards. It can support a use angle of 6 degrees or 9 degrees, which is very practical for users.

Due to the limitation in height and thickness, this kind of short shaft + short keycap keyboard basically does not have space for different arcs and heights between different rows, so it is still necessary to prop up a certain angle.

For the large keys, satellite shafts are used. There is not enough space for the Caps key to put down the shaft body, so it is supported by a narrower iron wire, not a balance shaft. The stability of the short axis will be improved, and the keycap will shake less. And what I choose here is also the RGB pluggable optical axis, which has both performance and light effect.

Of course, this kind of shaft is not compatible with the previous ordinary 3-pin and 5-pin plug-in shaft, and the design of the shaft body and the pins are different. In the future, another low-axis plugging system should be developed.

I don't read the manual in detail, because all the commonly used shortcut keys are printed on the keycaps, which is clear at a glance.

The keyboard itself is full-featured and compact, which is convenient for saving desktop space and carrying it out.

In terms of weight, it is only 470 grams, but it is a dual-mode wireless pluggable mechanical optical axis keyboard with lights.

Next we're going to get on the plane. For the adjustment of the keyboard light, there is even a special light switching key in the upper right corner, and for mobile devices, Fn+F1, F2 is also arranged to quickly adjust the brightness of the device screen (non-keyboard light brightness). The mobile phone connected this time is OnePlus 10Pro, because it uses the main camera of Sony IMX789, which can shoot 4K120 frame or 8K24 frame video, supports optical OIS anti-shake, and has been used a lot for work recently. Because it has a Type-C video output, sometimes it is also used to record games with a capture card. The configuration of Snapdragon 8 Gen1+UFS3.1+LPDDR5 is more than enough. It is also troublesome to dump data back and forth or switch devices, so I simply connect the keyboard to the mobile phone to write manuscripts or scripts on it.

The feel of the mechanical light short switch is quite good, and it does not sacrifice the feel like the film scissors used before. The optical switch and short keycaps trigger quickly, and the rebound is also good. It is very comfortable to type, and the keyboard is also comfortable. Supports responsive light effects, which I love when typing.

The brightness of the keyboard light is medium, but it looks very comfortable, and there is no strobe, and the built-in light effect is quite good, such as this double helix RGB.

Of course it’s okay if you want to shoot brighter, just adjust the parameters. If you change to a black background, the contrast will be more obvious. But it is true that Keychron K3E is quite good in terms of thinness, function, and feel. The lighting effect is also very good-looking, but the brightness is not so high. I personally think it is just right. Can see the keyboard.
