What is the experience of Black Canyon E series three-mode wireless mechanical keyboard?

Black Canyon’s previously released E-series mechanical keyboards don’t seem to have a very good response. On the one hand, the main reason is that the appearance is not too pleasing. On the other hand, the configuration is higher than that of the X-series, and the price is higher.

The E series currently has two main models, the E2 with a 75-type configuration, and the E4 with a 98-type configuration. There are two color options: Starlight White and Midnight Blue, and you can choose three kinds of shafts from the box shaft v2.

During Black Canyon's fan review event, I got this E2 Midnight Blue colorway. Like many mechanical keyboard users, the first hot-swappable keyboard I bought and used was Black Canyon’s popular entry-level model GK715, and this is the first time I use Black Canyon’s wireless keyboard.

First of all, let’s look at the packaging. It is still the pull-out type that Black Canyon likes. There is a layer of color box on the outside, which indicates the basic parameters and main selling points of the keyboard.

Open the inner packing box, there is a dust cover on the keyboard body, the dust cover is relatively soft and thin. Below the keyboard is the manual and palm rest. Other accessories include: key puller, shaft puller and data cable.

The key puller is a more commonly used wire key puller, and the shaft puller is the same metal shaft puller sold by Kaihua, both of which are more practical designs. The data cable is a very soft rubber cable, which is the softest among the cables I have seen so far, with a length of about 1.5 meters.

The palm rest is made of plastic, and the contact surface is the same as the glossy surface of the keyboard cover. It is also a relatively rare design on the keyboard. The surface feels smooth and delicate, but it is relatively easy to get fingerprints and oil stains, and it is not very smooth when viewed under reflection. . The back of the hand rest is a common plastic matte surface, and the four corners are non-slip rubber. It is stuck on the keyboard through the spring buckles on both sides and basically does not slide when it is used again, but it will be easier to separate when picking up the keyboard.

Next, let’s look at the keyboard body, which is relatively close to the common 75% arrangement, but the F area is a compact design, which does not look very coordinated, and may not be friendly to some people who touch the F area. The upper cover is a glossy varnish, and the black one is indeed more dirty when viewed under the light.

The smiling face indicator light continues the design of the Y series. Many people say they don’t like it. To me, it’s neither ugly nor very good-looking. The black top cover is not very conspicuous when it’s not on. From top to bottom are: upper and lower case, Scrlk, low voltage and charging indication, when it is lit, it is a white and slightly yellowish light, and there is no separate light blocking treatment.

On the left side of the keyboard is a relatively large power switch, which is a bit wobbly, but it obviously feels better to toggle than many keyboard switches.

On the right side is a magnetic receiver storage compartment. The receiver is still the A port plus C port that Black Canyon has been using, which avoids the trouble of switching to the C port device, and the small cover can be used on both sides. Cover, very careful design.

The bottom shell of the keyboard is relatively flat, except for the non-slip rubber at the four corners, there are two magnetic feet. The feet are very firm and will not fall off when you pick up the keyboard.

The type-c interface is in the middle, which is a bit deep. Most of the data cables are no problem in the actual measurement. Only one aviation plug-in cable does not feel tight because the C port is too short.

The midnight blue color scheme uses this set of opaque SA-like height PBT two-color ball caps. The space bar cap is made with friendly rounded corners, and the surface feels a finer matte feel.

There are also many FN combination function keys printed on the keycap. In addition to the common lighting effect switching and multimedia functions, what is different from other keyboards is a set of function keys for mouse operation, even if there is no mouse, the mouse can be moved, clicked and scrolled. FN+1~5 keys realize three-mode switching, and FN+DEL keys can check the remaining power through the illuminated number keys.

The E series still adopts Kaihua's shaft seat and shaft body, with reversed lights, and supports hot-swapping of most five-pin shafts.

Cangling, Danxia, ​​and Yanmo can basically be regarded as the white, red, and tea axes of the BOX axis v2. The Cangling axis I chose is the box white of the green axis, the green axis core, the green bottom shell, and the transparent upper cover. The tripod shaft, coupled with the light guide column, is not easy to pull out the shaft, and there is also the problem of crooked keycaps caused by the box structure. Compared with the box white v1 on the gk715, the shaft core of the Cangling shaft is more stable, the spring is longer, and the sound is louder and clearer.

The satellite switch is still the white and yellow satellite switch that Black Canyon has been using. The performance is relatively average. After replacing it with the box red that I bought before, there is no wire sound, but one or two large keys still have a little noise caused by the empty key travel. If you are more concerned about it , In fact, it is basically inaudible to use the Cangling axis, which is a loud axis.

The E series uses a gasket structure, and adds a silicone sandwich pad and a silicone bottom pad, but the overall feeling is hard when pressed, not very soft and elastic. The positioning plate made of PC is not fixed with screws, so the overall The consistency of the keys performed well.

In terms of wireless experience, there is basically no delay, and the wake-up speed after turning on the power switch is also very fast, and the wake-up under normal use does not swallow words. Both E2 and E4 use a 4600mAh lithium battery. The charging power after turning on the light can be close to 5W, which is relatively fast. Of course, it is recommended to use the USB port of the computer to charge to avoid damage.

Compared with many keyboards, the driver is better, with many functions, and it can also be connected in wireless mode, and you can also check the approximate power level. After registering an account, you can synchronize configuration files with the cloud. However, the fluency is still poor, and there will always be a freeze and a circle after the operation. The FN layer can be set by button editing, but the FN key cannot be changed. The FN layer setting is marked in red with the built-in FN combination function key that cannot be set.

The lighting can be adjusted in the lighting settings, and the music rhythm feels smooth. In addition, you can adjust the backlight off time and sleep time in wireless mode in the sleep setting.

In general, Black Canyon’s new E series is positioned between the X and Y series, and is closer to some of the designs of the Y series as a whole, such as the smiley face indicator light and the SA-like height ball cap, but they are not exactly the same.

The glossy surface of the paint and the compact F area are relatively difficult to make people like the design, but the flaws are not concealed. From the dual-head receiver, FN combination function keys, drivers, etc., we can see the humanized design of the Black Canyon, except that it is more dirty. The glossy surface, there is no problem with it.
