I would not recommend the trac pad.. I have tourettes and I've just about broken mine.. I've clicked it so harshly, it's about coming up.. I would recommend getting a cheap mouse so when he destroys it, it wo not cost a fortune. The tics will evolve.. I used to slam the mouse.. When I got the trac pad on my laptop, I smash the buttons.. It's a lose-lose situation. Also, just a bit of information that I got from my neurologist when I was little.. When you are on the computer or watching tv or anything with a flashing screen for a while, it makes your tics worse.. So watch him.. See at what point he starts to slam the mouse. Is it withing the first few minutes? Is it within 30 minutes? An hour?
