I've been using a Corsair Harpoon mouse for a while. It's intended as a gaming mouse, but it's a good all-purpose mouse too. It cost about $20, and I am happy with it for the cost. Before that, I had a Logitech G700s wireless mouse. It was more expensive, but a bit larger and more comfortable

The usb port in the back of the tower might have quit working. I have one port in my tower that quit working. You can buy a new optical (laser) mouse for about $10 now days, never buy the old ball type mouse, I am not sure if they even sell them anymore. I actually bought my mouse at Home Depot in the electronics department

Computer mouse
A computer mouse (plural mice, rarely mouses) is a hand-held pointing device that detects two-dimensional motion relative to a surface. This motion is typically translated into the motion of a pointer on a display, which allows a smooth control of the graphical user interface of a computer. The first public demonstration of a mouse controlling a computer system was in 1968. Mice originally used a ball rolling on a surface to detect motion, but modern mice often have optical sensors that have no moving parts. Originally wired to a computer, many modern mice are cordless, relying on short-range radio communication with the connected system. In addition to moving a cursor, computer mice have one or more buttons to allow operations such as selection of a menu item on a display. Mice often also feature other elements, such as touch surfaces and scroll wheels, which enable additional control and dimensional input.
