I have always wanted to switch to a keyboard set because the daily use of my current keyboard, which doesn't have a numeric keypad, is inconvenient. So, I decided to explore different brands and models. After considering options from Miwu and Jingdong, both of which had high-end metal chassis but lacked a mouse and were expensive, I ultimately returned to Logitech and chose the MK470 wireless keyboard and mouse set.
The MK470 set is available in black and white, and I opted for the white variant for its appearance. However, upon receiving it, I noticed that the gray edge on the top was a bit dark, which affected my overall satisfaction. I think choosing a brighter color would enhance its aesthetics.
In terms of design, the keyboard has a thin front and a supported back with a slight slope, making it comfortable to use. Its thickness ranges from 3-4 mm at the thinnest part to about 20 mm at the thickest part. The keyboard is primarily made of plastic, which gives it a positive look, although it doesn't provide the same high-end feel as a metal keyboard. I hope it won't easily get stained with prolonged use, but only time will tell.
As for the keyboard's performance, the key feedback feels similar to that of a notebook, with a good feedback force that is not too soft. The typing speed and feel are decent, although it lacks a bit of rebound force. However, the keys produce minimal sound, making it ideal for those who don't want their typing to attract attention.
The keyboard layout is relatively compact, featuring a small numeric keypad. This was my main reason for switching keyboards, although it lacks a number key lock indicator light, which is a minor disappointment but not a significant issue for everyday use. Additionally, due to size constraints, the placement of page-turning keys and the up and down keys has been optimized, deviating from the typical keyboard arrangement. Users accustomed to other keyboards may need time to adjust. Nonetheless, the keyboard's compact size takes up minimal space on the desktop, allowing for efficient use of limited space.
The keyboard also comes with 12 function keys, which, when combined with the FN key, help speed up daily tasks. One notable advantage is that no additional software installation is necessary as it is plug and play. However, for those who prefer more in-depth customization, Logitech offers software support that can be downloaded and installed separately. This flexibility is beneficial, particularly in office environments with strict IT management where software installation may not be allowed.
The upper part of the keyboard houses the battery compartment, which can be easily accessed by pushing the panel up. It also conveniently provides a storage space for the receiver, eliminating the concern of misplacing it.
Moving on to the mouse, I found that it is incredibly smooth and responsive. Compared to my old mouse, it operates effortlessly and doesn't require any major movements. The mouse buttons are barely audible and have good flexibility. Its small and thin size makes it suitable for those with smaller hands. The design, with a lower front and higher rear, alleviates strain on the hand while using the mouse, although using a mouse support would be recommended for better ergonomics.
In summary, the Logitech MK470 wireless keyboard and mouse set offers good value for money. Its battery life, as indicated by the official label, is impressive. Typing is silent, and the feedback is satisfactory. However, one notable drawback is that the keyboard lacks long-lasting rebound, which may impact its suitability for extended typing sessions.
