Have you changed the surface under your mouse recently? If you do not use a proper surface or mouse pad, optical mice are prone to random jumping and freezing in place. Black, Red and Glass surfaces are particularly bad although so are many other surfaces. The type of material (glossy, rough, smooth, etc.) will also determine how well the mouse performs.

What sort of disease does this mouse have (if any)?

It could have been caught by a cat and escaped but when a cat scratches or bites a mouse, all it takes is one puncture and the mouse will die in 24 hours or less.or it could have gotten into something poisonous that attacks the nervous system (most do). Probably good to avoid it and if you find it dead, do not handle it but do burn it. OK, I ran mouse running in circles on Google and came back with possible inner ear infection as well.

lol what a clever mouse obviously it can sense you are trying to kill it, why cant you use a trap that does not kill it? i dont understand why you want to kill it? yeah the cat can smell the mouse, but the poison will be toxic to the cat aswel. poor little thing i hope it escapes before you take its little life away
