Do the symptoms still present themselves? If yes, then the motherboard is damaged. IF not, proceed. So your external keyboard seems to function fine so let's unplug it and let's reinstall the original keyboard. Retest, BUT let's make extra sure that the KB's ribbon or tape cable is properly inserted into it's jack and that the locks on the ends of the jack are both secured in their downward position. Failing to ensure this secure connection can easily result in bad connections or intermitted connectivity and thus your symptoms would be present. Does the problem still exist? If not then obviously you resolved the issue, if the problem is STILL present, repeat the process with the new keyboard. If you STILL have the issue, then it looks as if the Motherboard has been damaged and you are kinda screwed unless you CAN use an external keyboard.
