How do I change default keyboard layout (not input method) in Ubuntu 16.04?
Install "Japanese iBus MOZC" Keyboard:Re-login (this is important!) and find mozc in System Settings -> Text Entry when you click the button. If "your" Japanese is not listed, enter this command in shellAfter that you should have these Japanese keyboard input sources in Text Entry when you click the button: Japanese (Dvorak), Japanese (Kana), Japanese (Kana 86), Japanese (Macintosh), Japanese (Mozc)(IBus), Japanese (OADG 109A), Japanese (PC-98xx Series)

What are the downsides of getting a foreign keyboard layout on a MacBook Pro?
I once was in a similar situation to what you described-I am an American and brought my U.S. MacBook to the UK. A couple observations:U.S. keyboard layouts are substantially different from the UK ones. Many common punctuation characters, including quote marks, are mapped very differently. I found UK keyboards too awkward to use and did virtually all of my work on my own U.S. keyboards.U.S. keyboards do not include the pound sterling symbol or the negation symbol used in the UK. You can get them by using Option key combinations, but that can be a bit of a pain. As bmike mentioned, if you need a keyboard repair you will face a substantial delay. Someone spilled a drink on my MacBook in a pub towards the end of my stay, and about a third of the keyboard was shorted out; when I took it in to an Apple Store, they warned me they would need to hold the computer for several days while replacement parts arrived. I could not spare the laptop for that length of time, so I spent the last couple weeks of that trip using an external keyboard with my MacBook, and repaired it when I got home. (That option, of course, wo not be available to you.)All in all, I do not think I would recommend it for you. That 150 is buying you freedom from a lot of hassles.

How to change keyboard layout on personalize page?
The problem solved. I formatted and installed it again, this time setting as English (language, time settings) and it worked. Thanks to Microsoft for this issue, they are doing their best to make difficulties to users as much as possible.

How to avoid keyboard layout automatically changing on windows
I hope this is the solution you've been looking for. I just now had the same problem when I was trying to play around with different languages as I will need them in the near future. I noticed that every time I clicked on the "sound icon" at the bottom right (I use vista) it will change to Korean input, or maybe if I open Mozilla Firefox, the input will automatically change to Korean (whereas I've been using English the whole time). In short, depending on what program I open up or click on the input language changes....annoying right? Here is what you want to do if you want the default to be set system-wide regardless of what program you open up:right click on the language bar, and then settings on the drop down menu, default input language....select what you want.D'oh! took me 3 hours to figure out...this should have come to me straight away as I was pretty much born with a computer, by now this should be sort of common sense for me? hehe

How to make the current keyboard layout more obvious in Windows 10?
Here is my simple AHK solution to the problem. This is hard-coded to EN and RU layout codes (RU - 1049 (hex: 419) and EN - 1033 (hex: 409)). The algorithm is simple: if active window has RU layout, then a red square appears on top. If it is EN layout, then it dissapears. In such way, I always see if the layout is not EN, so I can avoid the mis-typing.The script scans for active window each 600 milliseconds (see sleep parameter inside the loop to adjust it) so it works system-wide and correctly shows it if separate apps have different layout set. Tested on Windows 7 and 10. To adjust size and positions see the line Gui, Show, W100 H100 x980 y500
