Sounds like an issue with the keyboard. There's just a small ribbon cable that usually connects laptop keyboards to the motherboard. Chances of anything beyond the keyboard being damaged without you seeing other symptoms is extremely unlikely. Make sure you find the right keyboard. You should be able to find the model number of keyboard that your laptop requires. If you are going to do it yourself, be wary of that ribbon cable and the jack itself when putting the keyboard back in. Ribbon cable contacts can be very delicate and the sliding piece on the jack that holds it in is very thin plastic. I suggest a very small screwdriver to gently actuate the plastic piece. If you get it connected but are not certain it's in all the way, DO NOT pull on it. DO NOT remove it. Just fire it up and see if it works. The more you mess with that ribbon cable, the higher chance you have of causing damage to it. Also, if it's back-lit, you will have two cables to connect. Except the one for the back-light will be a wire cable. If you do not have any experience with opening up laptops - Try to find someone who does. Or just take it to a local computer shop. It's very easy to screw up a laptop.
